The soil also breathes

For those unfamiliar with the processes and activities that occur in soil, this statement may seem a bit strange. Just as humans breathe in order to continue our metabolic activity, the microbial fauna of the soil does the same.

This parameter, fundamental to the project, is an indicator of soil health and fundamental to the sustainability of agroecosystems, as well as to drought resilience. Soil respiration comes from soil microbial activity, so a higher rate translates into a larger microbial community that participates in nutrient cycling and decomposes organic matter making it available to crops.

The microbial community and therefore respiration are affected by various parameters such as humidity and temperature, aspects that will be discussed in future publications.
