EUROPE 34th SETAC ANNUAL MEETING

The 34th annual European meeting of the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry took place in Seville last May.

This premier international event was attended by approximately 2500-3000 delegates from all over the world. The theme of this year’s congress was Science-based solutions in times of crisis: integrating science and policy for environmental challenges. In our post-pandemic world, with food and cost-of-living crises exacerbated by armed conflict, environmental quality and long-term sustainable solutions are at risk. Therefore, there is a demand for new science-based solutions to future challenges. hese include the redesign of the agri-food chain, biodiversity loss, changes in land use and coastal ecosystems, and new regulatory frameworks that encourage sustainable innovations in the chemical industry.

SETAC Europe 2024 brought together scientists from various disciplines from academia, business/industry and government to share, debate, discuss, disseminate and facilitate the use and reuse of their latest scientific knowledge to support environmental management and protection. The scientific program consisted of more than 100 sessions organized into 7 major themes, invited speakers addressing various strategic issues (science/policy interface, water scarcity, scientific integrity), as well as special sessions and multiple satellite events.

The results of the 2022/2023 bean campaign were presented by Mr. José Antonio Mediano Guisado, predoctoral researcher.
